Sweater Ornament DIY
These adorable sweater ornaments will add some knitting inspired flair to your Christmas Tree! Sweater Ornaments make a great handmade gift and can even be used as gift tags. Gift one to a crafty friend or keep it for yourself. The holes in each ornament are left unstitched so you can embroider the color work details using a needle and yarn or embroidery floss. The possibilities for how to adorn the yoke and cuffs of these little sweaters are limitless.
There are two options available to purchase. Choose between the Sweater Ornament Blank or the Sweater Ornament Kit.
If you are purchasing the Blank only, your purchase includes one unstitched sweater ornament blank and an 8" length of cotton cord to use for hanging your ornament. A size 24 or 26 tapestry needle and embroidery thread are recommended for stitching these ornaments and are not included in the purchase of the Sweater Ornament Blank.
The Sweater Ornament Kit includes one unstitched sweater ornament blank, an 8" length of cotton cord to use for hanging your ornament, a size 24 tapestry needle and six bobbins of embroidery floss (with a total of 12 yards of thread). Each kit contains an assortment of colors to insure that everyone finds a favorite.
If you would like to hide the back of your ornament, it can easily be covered with a pretty piece of paper or a fabric such as felt when you're finished working on the stitching. When writing on your sweater, Ultra Fine Point Sharpie markers or Micron markers work great. Thicker Sharpies or other non-permanent markers may feather or bleed on the grain of the wood. (Markers are not included).
I laser cut each ornament myself out of birch plywood in my studio in Pawtucket, RI. Each piece is then hand sand and finished individually. These ornaments measure approximately 2.5" x 2.5" x 1/8".
Because they are made of a natural material, the appearance of each ornament may slightly vary.
Make sure to share your work by tagging it #katrinkles when you post it on instagram. Happy stitching! :)
